The Latest on Laura Geller. Are they Cruelty Free or Not?

I refer to The Laura Geller company as they as she is no longer the owner but sold it. She sold a majority stake of her company to Tengram Capital Partners, three years ago, to a firm that focuses exclusively on branded consumer and retail businesses. Today, while Geller still appears as a brand ambassador on QVC in the U.S. and the U.K., she is mostly uninvolved in day-to-day operations.

She is well known for her award-winning Spackle and “Baked in Italy” franchises. Before selling Laura gushed that they were cruelty free on QVC. Before I was cruelty free I tried a few of her products. I thought I’d check back in see what their stance on animal testing is now.

According the website here’s what they have to say.

Q: Do you test on animals?
A: Laura Geller Beauty products are not tested on animals. Our company is cruelty-free.

Q: Do any of your products contain animal by-products?
A: Some of our products may contain animal by-products.

So in other words they let second and third parties do the animal testing on the ingredients. That means they aren’t cruelty free.

Major companies are guilty of hiding their cruelty free status with wordy sentences that sound great on the 1st pass but with further examination just isn’t true. Doublespeak is used to hide what is really happening. Do they say ingredients manufacturers they buy from do not test? This is very important. They can say they are cruelty free but if they are buying ingredients to put in their products they are perpetuating the torture.
