Is Cetaphil cruelty free? Is Cetaphil a Cruelty free alternative?

Is Cetaphil cruelty free? As gentle as it gets?

Cosmetics animal testing is a horribly cruel practice in which animals such as beagles and most often rabbits, are subject to allergy tests in the mucous membranes such as eyes, nose and mouth. These chemicals can cause irritation, burning, and corrosion of the eyes and skin such as in the infamous Draize test. What’s more, 50 percent of all animals die in lethal dose tests. That’s how horrible it is.

Does Cetaphil test on animals? Read more below.

Galderma S.A. is who owns Cetaphil. a pharmaceutical subsidiary specializing in the research, development and marketing of dermatological treatments. They also own Proactiv an animal testing brand.

Many of cetaphil products are manufactured in France. In 2014, France received a C out of possible grades A, B, C, D, E, F, G on World Animal Protection’s Animal Protection Index. In 2014 France was reported not to have responded to funding of animal alternatives according to European Union legal obligations.

Inspections by the European Union’s Food and Veterinary Office have exposed issues in France with respect to implementation and enforcement of animal welfare. The French government has been relatively slow to implement European Union legislation in certain areas with respect to the welfare of farm and laboratory animals. In relation to implementation of the bans on battery cages and sow stalls, lack of implementation within the required timescales resulted in action by the European Commission..  The lack of an overall strategy against which progress can be monitored and reported is at present a barrier to improving animal welfare. Every year, millions of animals are still sacrificed in French laboratories. They suffer cruel treatment while alternatives exist.

They sell in china. Which means they aren’t cruelty free.

Some start using using Cetaphil facial wash at the recommendation of a doctor or esthetician not knowing the torture animals suffer by the parent company and the Cetaphil brand itself. Many dermatologists just recommend what they are given samples to give to patients. Most don’t pay attention to ingredients at all.

There are a host of non-animal and more humane ways to conduct the same sorts of research, and many readily available.

Many cruelty free brands are also free of parabens – a claim Cetaphil can’t make.
