elf Halo Glow Finish?
It’s semi-opaque with a satin (not matte) finish. I didn’t find this was moist or dewy at all. It dries down fairly quickly. It’s light to the touch and not heavy feeling.
The glow you get is from the finish not from liquid moisture. This is from the Calcium Sodium Borosilicate in it. That’s a glass-like material used for its iridescent properties. It is commonly found in makeup and nail polish products, and is considered safe for use in cosmetics.
elf Halo Glow Skin Tint Mineral SPF 50 Color
I had seen some tube shorts saying that this formula oxidized. I got the color Fair Neutral in the elf Halo Glow Skin Tint Mineral SPF 50. I can say that didn’t happen to me. So the color is too ghostly light for me. I tested it anyway. I was excited to try it. I will buy the correct color because a SPF 50 foundation is really appealing to me.
The color online looked a shade or two darker online than it did in real life. Since I had such a light color I had to even it out with liquid and powder bronzer. Powder blush and both liquid and powder bronzer worked normally over this finish.
elf Halo Glow Skin Tint Mineral SPF 50 on top of bare skin?
It doesn’t pill with my chosen sunscreen underneath. I tried with several different kinds of SPF and it performed without pilling.
I tried the elf Halo Glow Skin Tint Mineral SPF 50 with no prep, moisturizer, or sunscreen SPF under it. I wanted to see if it would work in a quick pinch as SPF 50 and foundation on the go. This was not flattering. It was so drying and chalky looking. It stuck on every dry patch looking crusty on each patch. I don’t recommend this without skin prep (skincare or primer and SPF) under it unless you have oily skin. Having tried the skin tint with SPF 50 alone I now know that this is not a quick one and done type skin tint that one applies with no base.
While this formula does not have talc in it does have silica. Silica is commonly used in cosmetics for its absorbency. It also helps improve the appearance of skin by providing a soft focus effect.
elf Halo Glow Skin Tint Mineral SPF 50 coverage
I didn’t like the finish as much just using my fingers. It looked like I piled on too much even though I was working on an even application that wasn’t heavy. I tried a wet makeup sponge for a smoother look. I loved that I didn’t feel the need to set it with powder after dry down.
This did cover my mild dark circles but not the broken blood vessels on my cheek. I tried the elf Suntouchable Whoa Glow SPF 30 <-a glowy face sunscreen & makeup primer with SPF hybrid, under it. It gives mush more dewy glowy finish but shows more wrinkles and pores that way. It did not pill though so that was good.
With my dryer skin I really needed a full skincare regime under this skin tint. I noticed if my skin wasn’t well exfoliated every flaky spot and pore stood out. The coverage on my nose was mostly gone in 7 hours. I’m not sure if that was because of the the contour I used on my nose. Foundation normally doesn’t last on my nose as it is still is oily at times.
Another time I mixed this with the elf Bronzing Drops in Pure Gold (antioxidant-rich tinted serum that allows you to customize a sun-kissed glow by mixing it with your favorite moisturizer) which made the coverage even smoother but it didn’t last as long. Again there was no pilling over my Essence Hello, Good Stuff! Primer Serum Hydrate & Plump.
My latest trial was with Pacifica Vitamin C serum underneath. This was a bad combo. The elf skin tint pilled badly over that. They were not compatible at all. It did cover a red scratch I had on my chin fairly well though.
Final Review: elf Halo Glow Skin Tint Mineral SPF 50
I’m not a huge fan of glowy foundation so I’m not big on that part of the formula. If you’re looking for a cushiony tinted moisturizer this is not it. This is more of a weightless airy light coverage foundation in my opinion. It’s great not to be conscious of a thick clammy texture on the skin and the pain of makeup sliding all over ones face. I like not having to wear a lot of powder to tamp down the greasiness of a heavier formula. I love that my skin feels like it can breathe if that makes sense. I love forgetting I have it on. That’s pretty nice for having an SPF of 50. It’s water resistant up to 80 minutes. If you get caught in the rain or deal with humidity that’s helpful.
