“Prestige skin-care company Tatcha has been acquired by Unilever in a deal that reportedly “approaches $500 million,” according to WWD. The exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.”  Customer favorites include the luxurious Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, The Silk Canvas primer, The Water Cream moisturizer, and The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser.unilever-tatcha
Victoria Tsai, Founder of Tatcha said: “When creating Tatcha, our dream was to make a brand that would live for at least 100 years; that dream can come true in our new home with Unilever. We are overjoyed to have found a parent to grow globally with, and to have a purpose-driven partner to ensure we can have a positive impact in our communities as we grow.”  The Unilever operates in more than 100 countries, selling its products in more than 190 countries. The global sales of Tatcha items to other countries makes way for the cruel & inhumane practice of animal testing.

This makes acquisition it one of Unilever’s biggest, though not as big as its $1 billion acquisition of Dollar Shave Club in 2016.  In 2016 the company bought eco-friendly cleaning products company Seventh Generation, as well as Dollar Shave Club.
“Tatcha joins brands Murad, Dermalogica, REN Clean Skincare, Kate Somerville, Living Proof and Hourglass as part of Unilever’s prestige portfolio.”
Whether the brand will remain cruelty-free under Unilever remains to be seen.
